FASHION / RED IS THE COLOUR OF THE MOMENT
Has Spring finally arrived?! Eye-popping fuchsias, zingy yellows and tropical greens are everywhere right now. However, one colour that is back with a bang, yet again, is trusty red. From warm orangey tones to deep merlots, there's a red to suit everyone.
There have been many iconic red moments in fashion. 1956 saw Marilyn Monroe posing seductively in a siren lace sweetheart dress, in 1991 Cindy Crawford wore a plunging Versace dress when stepping out with hunky Richard Gere at the Oscars and how could anyone ever forget Julia Robert's red dress and white gloves in one of my favourites, Pretty Woman. Wow, just wow.
And yet red isn't simply the colour of choice for cocktail dresses and couture gowns. Red is a bold lipstick, the sole of a shoe, the leather of a biker jacket and many, many more. There's wine, cherry, rose, blood, scarlet, and ruby. The possibilities and combinations are endless - and that's what's so fabulous about it. Red is fierce, it's defiant, and it's not for wallflowers.
The catwalks of SS17 saw red re-imagined in every way possible and now the high-street shops, as well as my own Instagram feed has turned red hot. From silky shirts to midi dresses, oversized knits to bold pumps, red is being styled in a multitude of ways.
I've always been a little scared of red, just because it can be so 'in ya face' and I'm a monochrome lover through and through. However, whenever the sunshine comes out, I try and fight my inner 'just wear black' demons and inject a touch of colour into my wardrobe. I've got several red pieces that I bring out every Spring / Summer that I loooove wearing. One piece being the summer dress below from good ol' Zara:
I wanted to outline some of the pieces currently available on the high-street for you to integrate some red into your wardrobes.
The simplest and easiest way to inject colour into your outfit is through beauty and my go-to ways are either through a pop of colour lipstick or nail varnish.
Whether you're after head-to-toe daring looks to more casual tees, there are sooooo many different options when it comes to injecting some red into your wardrobe via clothing.
If you’re feeling less daring, a bold red boot or shoe is a subtler way to dip a toe into the trend.
