London is awash with new restaurant launches and it's so exhausting in its pace that it’s often hard to keep up. However, as a massive foodie I do try and visit as many as I can. The city offers an eclectic mix of food and restaurants so whether you fancy a simple meal or a full on gastronomic-experience, there is something for everyone. Over the past few years, there’s been a huge surge in American influence, shown in restaurants such as Balthazar, Blues Kitchen and one of my absolute favourites Jackson & Rye (find my review here.)

Riding the wave of all things American is the Electric Diner in Portobello. Stepping inside, you feel like you've been whisked away across the Atlantic. The interiors are reminiscent of good ol’ America indeed; fat red banquettes, a dark wooden bar with swivelling leather bar stools, all encompassed by a low-slung curved wooden ceiling, which almost looks like an old-fashioned train carriage. It makes for a snug yet inviting dining environment.

You aren't able to reserve a table over the weekends so there was a small wait at the bar as we awaited a free table. Perched on the swivel chairs, we started with a few drinks; a detox juice and a Bloody Mary. The bartenders were fun, chatty and had true flare; it made the wait fly by.

Once seated, we both drooled over the menu. It features some classics like Avocado on Toast and Eggs Benedict, as well as pure heart attack food with crowd-pleasers such as french toast, waffles and donuts. I resisted my urge to order something sickly sweet and opted for their English Breakfast. "English Breakfast at an American Diner?!" I hear you say but well, I couldn't resist. It's my ultimate guilty pleasure which I don't tend to indulge in too often. It lived up to my high standards without a doubt; everything was cooked to perfection and the bacon and sausages in particular were outstanding. I couldn't recommend it more.

We both left feeling pleasantly full and extremely happy with the food, service and ambience. I can't wait to go back and try their lunch / evening menu!

What's YOUR brunch option of choice?!
