A Q&A WITH ME - SELF EMPLOYMENT, FAST FASHION AND THE MEANING OF LIFE

It may sound a bit silly but sometimes I get so wrapped up in the writing and creating element of this blog that I overlook the very important element that is you, as readers of this blog, and what you'd like to see or read about. Although I try really hard to form real genuine connections with my followers, on here and my other social platforms, of course there is always going to be more that you could learn about the girl behind the laptop / phone.

Personally, I'm always drawn to Q&A blog posts because they always seem a lot more real and as if you're having a genuine conversation with the person and getting to know them over a cuppa tea (or whichever beverage tickles your fancy!) With that in mind, I turned to Instagram and asked you guys if you'd like a Q&A and I had such a good response with some great questions so thank you - you're clearly all just as nosy as I am!

BLOGGING

HOW DO YOU OVERCOME A CREATIVE BLOCK?

This is actually something I struggle with a lot. My creativity - and drive to use it - definitely comes in spurts and there can be some days, or even weeks, where I can't muster up any form of creativity which can be extremely frustrating. Especially now that my rent payment relies on it. Over time, I've realised that taking the pressure off really does work wonders; creativity can't thrive in a stressful environment so take a step back, do something completely unrelated and then ease yourself back in. If you're still struggling, I find that creative platforms like Pinterest and Instagram, or even picking up a magazine, really help to reignite my fire. One tip that I do have is that if you really are battling for ideas, or just feeling a bit ‘bleugh’ I’ve learnt it’s often better to just not publish anything for a day or so rather than forcing it.

WHAT ARE THE THREE MOST CRUCIAL THINGS THAT MAKE A BLOG / INSTAGRAM PROFILE SUCCESSFUL?

Be consistent, support your fellow bloggers and produce work that you're proud to put your name against.

WAS IT AN EASY TRANSITION GOING FROM A FULL TIME JOB TO BEING SELF EMPLOYED / BLOGGING FULL TIME?

HELL TO THE NO. Even three months in, I'm still adjusting. The first few weeks were a dream because it felt more like a holiday, but reality has definitely hit now. I count myself very lucky that I've had the opportunity to pursue this blog full time, and there are countless perks (e.g. having the ability to work from in your PJs if you fancy it) but there are definitely days where I struggle. It can be difficult to go from being immersed in a corporate world full of routine and 'rules' to then have complete control over every single aspect of your day. Yes, you don't have to answer to anyone but it can be challenging (and often demotivating) to not have anyone to praise you, support you or even hold you accountable to certain tasks. I'm still getting the hang of it and it's still very early days but it takes a lot of discipline. Worth every second though.

FASHION & BEAUTY

WHAT'S THE ONE BEAUTY PRODUCT THAT YOU COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT?

I didn't even need to think about this one. Mascara. I feel like my whole face is completely transformed with even just one coat of mascara. I'm lucky that I have relatively clear skin so don't need to rely on foundation but I rarely step out of the house without mascara. Right now I'm using the Loreal Paradise mascara and it's magical.

IF YOU COULD ONLY KEEP 5 ITEMS IN YOUR WARDROBE, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?

My god, this is so tricky, especially seeing as I'm such a hoarder with my clothes. This took a lot of thinking but I whittled it down to; black skinny jeans, striped t-shirt, leather jacket, white linen shirt and my black jumpsuit. Classic dressing all the way. Wait... shoes weren't included were they? Barefoot it is!

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON FAST FASHION?

I shudder at the thought of how much I've spent in Topshop over the past decade. Let's just say most of my student loan was in fact spent on weekly new high-street additions for my wardrobe. I do love high street shops, and trend items, but the older I'm getting, the much more I find that I'm buying less and would much rather invest in high quality, timeless pieces. Yes, they may be a lot more expensive but it's true what they say; less really is more.

WHO ARE YOUR STYLE ICONS?

Living in London means that I'm constantly surrounded by people who love fashion just as much as I do and so I often find myself lusting over a fellow commuters scarf or that lady from the coffee shops jumper. Style icons and inspiration are all around but I definitely have my go-to ladies for when I need a little inspiration; Victoria Beckham, Olivia Palermo, Lucy Williams, Aimee Song and Sammi Maria are just a few.

PERSONAL

WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSONS YOU'VE LEARNT ABOUT LOVE?

If you've been here before, you'll know that I'm a true romantic (I wrote a whole post dedicated to it, which you can read here!) I love being in love and I've been fortunate - or some may argue, unfortunate - in that I've been in love several times throughout my adult life. All experiences were very different but each taught me a lot of lessons that I'm glad to have acquired. The biggest lesson I've learnt is that you really should follow your gut at all times, if something doesn't quite seem right - even if you can't put your finger on why - don't waste either of your valuable time. Another lesson is that laughter and being able to be yourself in a relationship is fundamental and mean volumes more than superficial things like good looks. Lastly, timing is key and both partners need to be on the same page in order for a relationship to work. Wish me luck...

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE SONG AT THE MOMENT?

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE?

... woah. Intense stuff, right? (Thanks Joe!!!)

I try not to dwell on this too much because I think its a topic that can be quite overwhelming and I know this can differ for each every person, however, for me, the meaning of life is to consume yourself in a world that gives you a sense of gratification and fulfilment. For some, that may be by having children, making millions or even, dedicating their lives to the church. Who knows how long I'll be on this earth and so I intend to use my time doing things that fill me with absolute joy. Its only really this year that I've had the opportunity to really focus on making that come to fruition and I continue to do so with full steam ahead.
