GLOSSIER HAUL & FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I'm not usually one to get overly excited about new beauty launches. Don't get me wrong, I do love makeup and have a fairly large collection tucked away in my vanity but I tend to arrive to the party fairly late when it comes to new product launches. Conversations usually go down a little something like this...
Jasmine: Oh my god, oh my god, have you heard about the new *enter beauty product*?!
Beauty snob or the like: Er...... you mean, the *enter beauty product* that launched last year...? *rolls eyes*
Yep, that's a regular occurrence. However, one beauty launch that I've been counting down the days for is Glossier hitting the UK. Yes, that's right, Glossier is now doing UK shipping and well, in brief, I AM SO FRIGGIN EXCITED. I definitely have to pass the blame over to both The Anna Edit and Lily Pebbles for being the biggest enablers and making me need half of the Glossier beauty range.
If you haven’t heard of Glossier, seriously where have you been? Emily Weiss, the founder & CEO of beauty editorial site Into The Gloss started Glossier as the effortlessly cool beauty brand for the girl who likes to keep things simple. Glossier found a niche and have very much run with it. The brand vows to deliver simple, easy-to-use products and hey, I'm all about that life. The less fuss, the better.
Glossier has been kicking around for a few years now but has only been available to buy in the US and Canada - until now. So no longer do we have to pester friends overseas or pay for ludicrious customs shipping fees, we can now pop the lot in our basket as normal. That's the best thing about this launch; unlike other beauty brands that ship to the UK, Glossier have made the strategic decision to have their own warehouse on the ground so there's no waiting eagerly for weeeeeks and weeks for your goodies to arrive. In short, I ordered a few bits and they arrived within TWO DAYS. Two bloody days.
I love Glossier’s slogans, their branding, their packaging... and of course, their fellow love for millennial pink. I feel like the Glossier packaging has received just as much hype as the products themselves have, and rightly so. They really have outdone themselves and have cleverly thought about every single element; custom-colour boxes, playful messages, bold statements announcing a parcel’s arrival, and thoughtful interior surprises - e.g. stickers!!! I couldn't have been more giddy when my own parcel arrived and that feeling was heightened even more when I opened up the box and was greeted with three words that all women love; "you look good"! YES GLOSSIER, YES. Who needs a boyfriend when you can just have regular pick me ups with every Glossier delivery?
WHAT I ORDERED / WAS GIFTED
Because I'm a great blogger and y'know, I was thinking of you guys, I thought it'd only be fair for me to test out a few bits and pieces. No doubt I'll make a hefty order fairly soon - I know I won't be able to resist for too long - but for now I've purchased the three items that I've been wanting to try really desperately and have heard pretty great things about.
I also was VERY fortunate to be invited to the Glossier launch party on Friday night where we got given a really exciting goodie bag to go home with. Very, very spoilt indeed.
Below I'm going to talk through each product and talk about whether or not I think they're worth the hype.
I'm not usually one for brow products - mainly because I'm a bit lazy and if Cara Delevingne can rock a bushy brow, why can't I - buuuut seeing as Boy Brow is notorious for being the brands hero product, I couldn't not give it a try. There are a few different colour variations, including a clear one, but I went for the brown shade and it really is very good. It gives your brows that extra bit of definition and makes them look fuller without any dreaded crispiness. I feel like this could easily become a holy grail product.
I'm pretty damn fussy with concealers and have been loyal to a sacred few for many years, but this concealer promises coverage without the “cakey” look, and I have to admit, that’s exactly what you get. I want my concealer to cover anything from a lil blemish to full on, I haven’t slept all night eyes, ya know... it’s basically gotta do it all. Creamy concealers can often be stiff or dry, but this contains elastic micro-waxes that blend the product into your skin seamlessly. It's beautiful and even leaves your skin looking extra dewy and glowy. A real winner.
The Generation G range is Glossier’s answer to a lipstick. They’re matte, lightweight and come in the most wearable shades. I'm a sucker for a good nude, so of course I had to go for Cake which is a really subtle, every-day wearable peachy nude. They're quite sheer on the lips and are almost like a tinted balm which makes them really comfortable to wear and perfect for those 'your lips but better' moments. I also love that they're a multi-use product and you can dab the colour onto your cheeks for a quick and easy pop of colour - something like Crush would work really well for this.
Don't be fooled by the packaging, the Balm Dot Com is much much more than just a regular old lip balm. Think Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Balm, but for a fraction of the price. Basically, yes, you can use this glorious products on your lips, and it does a damn good job at keeping your lips nice and moisturised, but you can also slather this balm onto other dry areas of your face - and body - with great effect. It's quite thick in texture and so a little really does go a long way. A nice addition are the scents, I'm usually a bit fussy with scents, especially when I'm popping scented products on my face, but all of the Balm Dot Com's that I've tried so far have a subtle scent - nothing crazily overpowering. This mint version comes out clear, however I know that some of the other variations have a slight coloured tint to them! I thought I'd start with the safe option...
At fist, I was a bit skeptical to try the Milky Jelly Cleanser, mainly because of the name. To me, something 'milky' doesn't sound like it'd do an efficient enough job at removing makeup. However, I needn't have worried, because despite the name, this cleanser definitely has more of a gel texture. This is a real 'no-frills' product; it feels very gentle on the skin and works perfectly as a single cleanse on minimal makeup or a second cleanse for more heavier days. I've been using this for a few days and so far, so good. However, I will be honest, it doesn't feel like the most luxurious of products to use, and I don't feel necessarily pampered after using it, but for the price-tag and for daily use, it does a good job.
All in all, I'm SUPER impressed with the bits I've tried and it's definitely got me eager to try out some of their other products. The best thing about the brand is that lots of their key products even come in “phases” where you can buy items together for a lower price! We all know I'm a sucker for a bargain...
Have YOU tried any of the Glossier products? If so, which and what were your thoughts? I'd love to hear all about it in the comments below!
