BEAUTY / TRENDS FOR SPRING/SUMMER
I tend to play it pretty safe with my makeup and have got my morning makeup routine down to roughly an eight minute ordeal. I know the products that work for me and how to apply them in the most efficient way to achieve the look I want. It must be the German in me.
However, I’m always very envious of those people that can rock different and daring beauty trends. I’ve made a vow to try and mix it up a bit more, I can’t promise that you’ll see me experimenting with glitter lips or stick on gems but here are a few Spring / Summer trends that I’m tempted by:
GLOSSY, SHEENY LIDS
Glossy, dewy eyelid looks look oh so natural and sheeny but after doing some research, it seems to take a hell of a lot of patience and maintenance. I do love the nude ‘wet’ eye makeup look but glossy can often look sticky, which is far from glamorous. So instead of going clear, I’ve already dabbled into this trend a bit and have purchased a few glossy glitter eyeshadows recently. Whilst the professionals do it properly and use endless amounts of products; how about trying something like MAC Studio Eye Gloss to achieve a similar look?
80's MAKEUP / BLUE EYESHADOW
Shamefully, I actually used to wear bold blue shadow and matching liner a lot during my teens and I can safely say it looked horrendous. Most probably because I had no idea what I was doing. These days I have a touch more knowledge and practice so I'm curious to see if I can rock this look nowadays - perhaps more of a navy smoky eye rather than cobalt blue though. Something like NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Glove could be perfect!
Liquid eyeliner is the bane of my life. I love the effect and wear it every day but I’m relieved to see that pencil eyeliner is back with a bang – maybe this means a few less temper tantrums in the mornings from having to re-do my liquid eyeliner for the twentieth time. My go-to pencil eyeliner will always be Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil because it doesn't budge at all.
I'm a bit scared of silver eyeshadow as whenever I go to wear a silvery smoky eye, it tends to look like I've got a bit of a black eye. Not ideal. Despite that, I do have quite a few silver eyeshadows in my collection but always gravitate toward the more brown / gold-ish shades which I'm more comfortable wearing. But, in the name of 'fashion', I’m going to give silver eyeshadow a shot. My favourite silver eyeshadow palette in my collection is the Rimmel London HD 5 Pan Eyeshadow.
There have been so many times where I’ve gone waaaaay too overboard with my blush but if I knew it was making a come back, I wouldn’t have spent ages trying to furiously blend it in. Maybe Bridget Jones had it right all along. I'll go a touch more heavy handed with my NARS Orgasm Blush from now on then...
I’m so unadventurous with my hair; it’s either up or down and I’m always so envious of women that can do fancy up-dos, French plaits and all that malarkey. I’m going to try and incorporate a few plaits here and there with the hope that I don’t end up looking like Pocahontas. My hair is pretty sleek so needs a bit of texture to keep a look in place so I tend to rely on products such as Bumble and Bumble Dryspun Finish.
Is this just an excuse to not take off my eye-makeup before bed? In all seriousness though, I do love this ‘messy’ look and with the right eyeliner and smudging brush, it’s so easily achievable and looks really ‘rock-chic’. Bring it on. As above, my favourite kohl eyeliner will forever be the Urban Decay one however a close second is the Rimmel Soft Khol Kajal Eye Pencil.
LIPSTICK AS BLUSH
I love multi-use products and any love any excuse not to have to lug around extra products in my makeup bag. I guess I’ll have to be careful with what shade I go for and how much to apply but I’m keen to give it a shot. Perhaps not my favourite MAC Rebel though...
DEEP SIDE PARTING
I do rock this look quite a lot – it’s kind of my ‘go to’ evening hairstyle and people are always very complimentary so I’m going to make an effort to rock it more during the day too. It's so easy to achieve but really does transform your look and instantly makes you look a bit more edgy. I tend to hold mine in place with Pantene Pro-V Hairspray Extra Strong.
What trends will YOU be rocking in the upcoming months?
